WebRTC Leak Checks
Understand ICE candidates, mDNS masking, and what a browser-based leak check can and cannot observe.
What WebRTC Is
WebRTC lets browsers establish real-time audio, video, and data connections. To do that, browsers gather candidate network addresses.
What ICE Candidates Are
ICE candidates describe possible connection paths. They can include host, server-reflexive, or relay candidates depending on browser settings and network conditions.
What mDNS Masking Does
Modern browsers may replace local IP addresses with temporary mDNS hostnames to reduce exposure of local network details.
What a Leak Check Can Observe
A browser leak test can inspect candidates available to JavaScript and compare any visible public addresses with the detected public IP.
What It Cannot Guarantee
A clean browser result does not prove that every app, browser extension, DNS resolver, or operating-system service is private. It only describes what the current browser test can observe.
